Alex Rae Rangers picture has Michael Beale karma overtone

An ominous image of Alex Rae sitting directly behind outgoing Rangers manager Michael Beale has gone viral.

The image – taken as part of the Ibrox club’s Armed Forces Day celebrations before the weekend’s defeat to Aberdeen – shows the ex-Ibrox midfielder sitting directly behind the outgoing Ibrox boss.

Whilst the snap looks fairly innocuous at first, the fact Alex Rae is part of the interim management team which has replaced Michael Beale has the Gers support talking.

It comes after Michael Beale was spotted at Ibrox, ironically taking in a game against Aberdeen, just weeks before Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked as manager,

The Dutch coach is said to have been “bemused” by the situation with the then QPR boss insisting the visit was planned well before he was even in contention for the Ibrox job.

Alex Rae spotted directly behind Michael Beale in ironic Ibrox snap

It’s a situation which did leave a little taste in the mouth for Rangers fans and – combined with Michael Beale only just reiterating his commitment to QPR – didn’t look good for the Rangers manager.

But whilst we’re certain the situation wasn’t deliberate, after all Michael Beale was still in a job before the 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen, the image does have a kind of karmic poetry.

Alex Rae will now form part of the interim coaching team who will take over from Michael Beale and co, the former Dundee and St Mirren manager assisting Steven Davis at Ibrox.

Having had coaching experience in the SPFL the former coach – who is more prominently a pundit these days – will be tasked with steadying the ship whilst the club find a replacement.

Rangers are clear that they will be leaving no stone unturned in the hunt for a manager as the club look to make the right appointment in the weeks ahead.

With Michael Beale and his backroom staff now gone, the onus is on Alex Rae and Steven Davis to guide the side through the next couple of matches and keep the Gers’ faint title hopes alive.
