Alex Lowry reunited with Rangers staff after Hearts blow

Alex Lowry has been reunited with the Rangers medical team after picking up an injury while on loan with Hearts.

The 20-year-old joined the Jambos at the beginning of the season as he sought more first-team opportunities.

Lowry ripped up the youth scene at Ibrox and wanted a fresh challenge for the 2023/24 campaign and was handed a chance by former Rangers striker Steven Naismith at Tynecastle.

He’s there until the conclusion of the season and so far has been afforded a healthy number of minutes in a maroon jersey. Lowry has been mainly deployed on the left side of midfield and from there, he’s contributed two goals and five assists in 17 games.

However, Lowry has played just 58 minutes of the last three Premiership games and now is having to deal with an issue that will keep him out of Hearts’ clash with Celtic today.

Naismith confirmed to the media on Friday that Lowry would likely miss the Hoops game, one the 20-year-old would have been obviously dying to play in.

But according to the Edinburgh Evening News, Lowry is back in the hands of Rangers medical staff who are also working alongside their Hearts counterparts to treat the midfielder’s current injury.

The problem doesn’t appear to be a major one so Rangers fans won’t have to worry about his progress at Tynecastle being severely hampered yet.

Philippe Clement may well be tempted to bring Lowry back to Ibrox in January given the current Rangers injury crisis in midfield. But we think Lowry should stay put and continue his development elsewhere – in the long run, it will benefit him more.
