It is the small, spot-like light in the distance that Rangers fans are clinging to that is giving hope when previously there was none.

The San Francisco 49ers takeover bid has been ticking along smoothly behind the scenes and is a glimpse of what might be a new era for the club.

Fears of Rangers being a feeder club for Leeds United have been put to bed, with Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton already being confirmed as staying in their respective posts by the 49ers Enterprises group that are leading the bid.

Rangers takeover deal reported to be in closing stages

The latest news from The Daily Record has suggested that a deal could be imminent.

Speaking on The Record’s Hotline podcast, Keith Jackson, who broke the initial Rangers takeover story, said:

“This is simply now, a matter of going through the legals on it, and it is a really complex deal for a number of reasons that have been previously discussed.

“It’s really complicated, so there is a lot of formal legal documentation to go through to check and double check.

“We said ‘advanced’ well, it doesn’t get any more advanced than this.”

Jackson then surmised by saying, “This deal is going ahead full speed as far as I can see.”

Is the takeover good news for Rangers?

The timing is perfect for this sort of level of investment in Rangers.

Major shareholders like Dave King, John Bennett and Douglas Park have all taken the club as far as they can and have intimated that they are willing to step aside for the right people.

An organisation with enormous potential in terms of data analysis as well as commercial partnerships is exactly that.

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world with the owners’ worth stated by Forbes as being in the region of £6bn

Even if their plan is to make money out of Rangers, this can’t happen without success on the pitch.

Something that would make all fans happy, regardless of who is in the boardroom and writing the cheques.
