The more things change, the more they stay the same as Rangers under Barry Ferguson revert back to type.

If cowardice is the antonym of bravery, then that is exactly what the current Rangers squad is, incapable of taking responsibility at either end of the park.

Ferguson didn’t quite promise the world, but he did promise that there would be changes, unfortunately, the Hall of Fame legend set Rangers out with the same shape and system against Motherwell that has failed all season.

Barry Ferguson falls into the same Rangers tactics trap

The interim boss’ hands are tied in terms of personnel, however, there is a unified frustration amongst fans having to endure what Albert Einstein would declare as the definition of madness.

There is a ginormous, trophy laden hint, as to what works in Scotland across the city, which only makes Rangers’ insistence on doing something with no proven success even worse.

There is nothing to lose. At the earliest opportunity, Ferguson must make the changes that he spoke about and give players like Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande a helping hand in midfield.

Who should Rangers appoint as next manager?

What 2025 should have taught Patrick Stewart, is that a manager with an aggressive style of play is essential, but is it too late to make the most obvious of appointments?

“He had two interviews at the time and he lost out and he was devastated to lose out at the time to Philippe Clement,” said Craig Moore of Kevin Muscat nearly getting the Rangers manager’s job

“He thought it was a great opportunity for him and it would have been a great job but Kevin now is doing a great job in China and that ship has well and truly sailed.”

“His teams play entertaining football, score goals and they create,” said Moore previously. “He’s a great option for Rangers as far as I’m concerned.”

As he was in 2023, so he is in 2025. The Rangers fans couldn’t take another pragmatist who plays with a 4-2-3-1 formation.
