Rangers are pushing to sign Abdallah Sima, who has already been told by Roberto De Zerbi that he can leave Brighton and Hove Albion.
That is according to the Daily Record, who claim that De Zerbi has informed Sima that he is surplus to requirements this coming season.
It’s stated that De Zerbi is yet to be convinced by Sima and is happy for him to go out on loan again.
That stance has given Rangers the green light to go and sign Sima on loan for the season, with a purchase option unlikely to be in place.
The Scottish Mail on Sunday broke news over the weekend, claiming that Rangers were closing in on Sima.
The 22-year-old cost Brighton £7million in 2021 having impressed for Slavia Prague.
Sima has yet to feature for the Seagulls though and has been out on loan with Stoke City and Angers.
A Senegal international, Sima has real potential and should provide Rangers with a versatile attacking threat who can play up front or out wide.
Michael Beale ‘exception’ highlighted as Abdallah Sima nears Rangers move
The report also highlights how Rangers boss Beale is making something of an exception as he nears a deal for Sima.
Beale stated in January that there would be ‘no loans’ for Rangers, believing it wasn’t right for the future of Rangers.
Beale has so far stayed true to his word, securing permanent deals for Todd Cantwell, Nicolas Raskin, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Sam Lammers.
Sima would be the first loan signing of the Beale era but it isn’t quite like he has gone back on his January stance.
There is certainly a difference between taking a player on loan for a full season and bringing somebody in for six months in January.
Beale wasn’t looking for instant impact in January; he wanted players like Raskin and Cantwell who could settle in for a few months before taking on a key role moving forward.
Rangers need a boost in attack and Sima can hopefully provide it with a move to Ibrox in the coming days.
