As we look ahead to the summer transfer window there’s set to be plenty of names linked to Rangers and one potentially being watched by the club is driving his current side’s promotion charge.
Jonson Clarke-Harris has been on rampant goalscoring form for Peterborough United in League One and his presence has not so much softened the blow of Ivan Toney leaving as he has completely eradicated it.
When Toney moved to Brentford in the summer many would’ve felt Peterborough would struggle to maintain a promotion challenge without the forward.
But signing Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers in the summer – for a reported £1m fee – has proven a masterstroke and the 26-year-old striker is reportedly attracting interest as a result.
The potent forward – who had a previous spell with the Posh in 2012 – is League One’s top scorer with his 26 strikes hauling them into second place in what is a competitive division.
Hull City and Sunderland remain title rivals but as it stands Peterborough are well on their way to the English second tier and should they make it, any move for Jonson Clarke-Harris becomes more difficult.
Dropping Rangers’ name into the hat regarding the interest, Peterborough sporting director Barry Fry also hinted the club want around £5m for the player.
“Rangers have been to a lot of our matches this season and they were there on Saturday. Sheffield United were also there, but West Brom weren’t,” said Fry [Peterborough Telegraph].
“I didn’t have a conversation about Jonson with any of them though.”
Even if Rangers aren’t directly interested, they’ll certainly be aware of the forward.
Clarke-Harris is an interesting name to consider and whilst there will be more than a few strikers linked to Ibrox ahead of the next window, it’ll certainly become harder to sign him if Peterborough win promotion.
However, one striker who’s reportedly closing in on a move to Rangers has taken to Instagram to comment on a recent goal drought with his current club.
