Ex-Rangers star Greg Docherty scored the second goal in a table-topping clash for new side Hull City as they dumped League One rivals Charlton 2-0.

The former Ibrox midfielder left for Hull City in the summer on a deal reported to be worth £350k [STV] as the 24-year-old looked to get consistency after a series of loan spells.

Impressing at this level previously with Shrewsbury Town, Hull took the plunge and so far, it’s paid off with the Tigers currently sitting in 2nd place in the English third tier.

In a tight League One race, Charlton now sit five points behind Hull in 6th, with both sides having a game in hand on table-topping Lincoln City who are currently four points clear.

Docherty’s 76th-minute goal – which came after Charlton were reduced to 10 men – topped off what’s being regarded as an impressive performance down south for the boyhood bluenose.

It’s Docherty’s second goal of his Hull tenure as he enjoys a positive start to life at the KCOM, his first coming in December in a 1-1 draw with Oxford United.

The midfielder’s strike would’ve topped off what would’ve been a brilliant day for the Rangers fan after the Gers edged out a narrow 1-0 win over Celtic.

Docherty joined Rangers in January 2018 on a reported £600k deal from Hamilton [Sky Sports] but the midfielder struggled to break into the side under Steven Gerrard.

Loan spells with Shrewsbury and Hibs would follow but Rangers fans will be wishing the likeable ex-Ibrox star all the best as he carves out a career down south.

You never know either – Docherty has kept the door open for a potential return to Rangers should things go to plan down south.
