Rangers’ ‘fantastic’ former star set for European switch

Released Rangers man Alfredo Morelos looks to be nearing the end of his search for a new club with a move to recently promoted La Liga side Granada looming.

According to Balon Latino, via the Daily Record, Morelos is confident of agreeing a deal with last season’s Segunda Division champions, stating the economic conditions and contract time of the agreement as factors he likes.

Celta Vigo are credited with having a late interest in the forward, with clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia also said to have made initial contact with the Colombian’s representatives.

It may come as a surprise that Morelos is still without a club considering he has been able to sign a pre-contract with any team since January, however, he recently stressed that he was comfortable with the situation whilst insisting he would only move to a top European league.

Seemingly, he is going to get his wish.

The Scottish Sun back Balon Latino’s claim, reporting that Granada have offered the 27-year-old a three-year deal with a release clause of £7million if another club becomes interested in him.

Managed by Paco Lopez, the ambitious Spanish outfit have earmarked Morelos as their top target.

It was only three seasons ago that the Nazaríes faced Manchester United in the Europa League, but a whirlwind few years saw them relegated to the second tier the following campaign before securing promotion back to La Liga at the first time of asking.

Morelos’ record

As recently as March, Gers boss Michael Beale labelled the former star ‘fantastic’. In fairness, that is probably putting it lightly given his Rangers record.

In six successful years at Ibrox, Morelos hit the back of the net 124 times in 269 appearances. Adding to that, he registered 58 assists and won both the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.

It is not the way that many hoped his Gers journey would end, but his impact at the club will live long in the memory of everyone connected.
