Ibrox is a stadium that Rangers fans can be proud of again, the work started by Dave King to, first of all, renovate and then modernise has seen it not only restored to its former glory but beyond.

From the basics of washing the club deck stairs’ windows, cladding around the stands and renewing the surface around the outside of the pitch to bigger projects like the refurbished bar and hospitality areas, it is truly a five-star arena.

There is one problem though, demand frequently outstrips supply, but talk of an expansion of Ibrox is back on the agenda with James Bisgrove fielding questions at the Fans Forum, as reported by the Four Lads Had a Dream blog.

So far, fans know that work is being undertaken to upgrade the disability access and facilities that will increase capacity via the cantilever infrastructure that has already been detailed.

One aspect that makes most sense is the corners between the Copland, Broomloan and Sandy Jardine stands being filled in which would see an extra 1500 seats, give or take.

However, nothing has caught the eye, or the imagination, quite like Bisgrove revealing that there are ambitious plans looking into the expansion of both the Copland and Broomloan stands.

By how much?

An incredible 8,000 to 10,000.

On each stand.

For a start, how is this even possible?

This would take Ibrox to around 70,000 in terms of capacity and be more than big enough for what Rangers need.

Of course, it is still very, very early days and that this scale of project is a long-term one, there was also no indication as to how this would be achieved or how much it would cost.

For now, the money will be better spent on the pitch, even if a minimum £8.5m in season ticket revenue – the cheapest reported is £532 x 16,000 – every year would come in handy.
