Rangers loanee Jake Hastie will soon return to the club from Motherwell and the pacy winger has vowed to work hard and prove himself at Ibrox [Daily Record].

Hastie joined the Gers from Motherwell on a four-year contract in the summer of 2019 and there were high hopes for him given that he’d produced a number of goals and assists for the Steelmen over the second half of the previous season.

However, he hasn’t managed to make an impact at the club so far.

The 23-year-old made just two first-team appearances last season before being sent out on loan to Rotherham United.

He was recalled in January 2020 after falling out of favour at the Yorkshire club but he didn’t manage to get into the first-team reckoning and was sent back to Fir Park on loan ahead of the current campaign.

This season hasn’t worked out as the Scotland youth cap would have hoped, either, as he’s made just 16 appearances and has failed to score a goal.

Yet, he’s determined to soon prove his worth to Steven Gerrard.

“I’m just going to go back to Rangers and see what happens,” said Hastie [Daily Record]. “I want to go back and prove myself, definitely, 100 per cent.”

“There has been feedback from Rangers, they always come out and watch the games I’ve played and assess them, stuff like that.

“The success of Nathan Patterson encourages me to go back and get in the team. I will keep my head down, work hard and see what happens.”

Hastie is talented and extremely quick, but his attitude has been questioned at times since his return to Motherwell and his lack of playing time there suggests it’s unlikely he’ll get back into Steven Gerrard’s plans unless he produces a spectacular pre-season.

The winger is under contract until 2023, but with Ryan Kent and Scott Wright established in the first team and the likes of Brandon Barker, Jordan Jones, Josh McPake and Kai Kennedy all also primed to return from loan stints of their own ahead of next season, it would be a surprise if he managed to add to his pair of first-team appearances.

In other news, Rangers have received a big injury blow ahead of Saturday’s clash with Aberdeen, although one important player could return to action.
