Rangers pre-season has been a struggle on and off the pitch with the players’ performances doing little to help the mood amongst the support.

The manager has a squad that is starting to improve with the addition of Vaclav Cerny but, when you look at the team that started in Berlin, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

Here are your Rangers player ratings for the end-to-end encounter against Union Berlin with the proper football starting in just seven days time.

Rangers player ratings v Union Berlin

Clement will be hoping that when the real football starts that his players kick into gear and don’t switch off so often at the back, these are your ratings for today’s efforts:

Jack Butland – 5

Couldn’t do much with the penalty or third goal but will have been disappointed to see the first go through him.

Also seemed to react slowly to Union’s fourth which is a concern.

James Tavernier – 4

Better than he was against Birmingham City, however, he should have done better in the build up to the penalty incident and was weak for Union’s fourth.

Jefte – 4

Poor positionally for two of the goals and on other occasions, in possession though, he looked like a different player.

Can see how he might be useful against low-block sides, maybe not against the better teams to start off with.

Ben Davies – 6

Solid enough, will need to adjust to having to be more vocal and organise the left-hand side of defence, especially when Jefte is playing.

John Souttar – 6

As with Davies, performed reasonably well, most of the defensive issues were in wide areas.

Connor Barron – 7

Is already proving to be a shrewd acquisition on a Bosman and is impressing more in possession now too.

Mohamed Diomande – 8

Easily Rangers best player now. Unlucky at the very harsh penalty call but was outstanding otherwise.

Lovely pass for Cyriel Dessers’ goal and could have scored himself but fired a rebound over.

Tom Lawrence – 8

Not the most mobile, energetic or dynamic performance, however, with two goals he showed what he can bring to Rangers attack – numbers.

Oscar Cortes – 6

Still getting up to speed but beat his marker on a few occasions.

Needs to to the dirty side of the job too though.

Cyriel Dessers – 9

Much better from the big forward.

Beautifully taken first goal and linked play well too, his second was probably the only time that taking a touch and delaying the finish has paid off, another peach.

Scott Wright – 6

When he starts games he needs to play as well as when he comes off the bench.

Hard working as always though and should have scored after an inch perfect Ridvan Yilmaz through ball.

Substitutes – up to 80 minutes

Leon King – 5

Given a rough introduction when he was skinned for pace but adjusted well in his next one-v-ones.

Rabbi Matondo – 5

Plenty of energy but not enough control or end product.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 7

Better defensively than Jeft and looked to join the attack whenever he could.

Stunning pass for Wright that should have been put away.

Ross McCausland – 5

Had a good chance to score with a volley but blazed his effort well over, he needs goals and assists if he is going to threaten Vaclav Cerny.

Subs after 80 mins

Leon Balogun and Danilo
