Lawrence Shankland and Thelo Aasgaard scored penalties as Rangers beat St Etienne 2-1 at Ibrox on Thursday.
The Scotland international opened the scoring as he stepped up in the fifth minute and found the bottom corner with a powerful strike from 12 yards.
Jakob Breum then found the back of the net for St Etienne in the first half, in what was a poor moment defensively from the hosts.
Aasgaard scored from the spot in the 85th minute as Shankland was no longer on the pitch to secure a hard-fought win in Glasgow.

Cammy Devlin came on at half-time and seemed to provide exactly what Rangers were lacking.
He was willing to get on the ball and keep things ticking, but more importantly, disrupted St Etienne’s control of the game.

Towards the end of the first half, the French side were controlling the game, but the former Hearts midfielder got stuck in after he came off the bench, making some important tackles and interventions.
In games Rangers are expected to spend more time out of possession, potentially in Europe, McInnes may consider starting him.
The Australian midfielder was also voted the Man of the Match at Ibrox for his terrific performance.
Lack of quality wide players a clear worry for Rangers
McInnes was perhaps sending a message to the hierarchy with his starting eleven, due to the lack of wingers in the eleven.
Findlay Curtis did start on the left, but he is not known to be someone who can hold the width, and he kept drifting inside.
Most of the Light Blues’ play in the first half was through the middle, and any attacks out wide were due to the full-backs.
It is important that the board signs a couple of wingers sooner rather than later, or it is going to be another tricky campaign.

Thelo Aasgaard showed why McInnes is keeping the faith in him
Thelo Aasgaard’s future appeared to be up in the air going into the summer transfer window.
However, McInnes has held talks with him, and he is expected to stay put at Ibrox.
Against St Etienne, the Norway international came off the bench and did not take long to make an impact.
He carried the ball confidently into the opposition penalty area, shrugging off challenges from two to three players.
The 24-year-old also kept working tirelessly without the ball and, at the end of it, found the back of the net from the penalty spot.
