Rangers have managed to find solace from domestic woes in the Europa League this season despite Nice being part of a difficult set of fixtures.

The manager is being let down by a squad that is capable of so much more than what was seen at Ibrox at the weekend with Philippe Clement hanging to his job by a thread as a result.

Here are your Rangers player ratings for the visit to France to take on Nice in round five of the Europa League league phase fixtures.

Rangers player ratings vs Nice

With a place in the knock-out stages of the Europa League within reach, this is how the Rangers players scored:

Jack Butland – 7

Was threatened on a number of occasions with long-range efforts but dealt with everything that was thrown at him.

Commanded his penalty area well and swept up behind his defence, could do nothing about Nice’s consolation.

Dujon Sterling – 8

There is a reason why he is keeping the captain out of the team – he is simply a better defender than James Tavernier.

Sterling also chipped in with an assist for Rangers key second goal.

Jefte – 7

As with Sterling, Jefte stuck manfully to his task in one-v-one battles and covering the space in behind him.

Unlucky not to add a fourth for Rangers on the counterattack forcing a fine save from Nice’s keeper in the process.

Robin Propper – 7

Always seems more comfortable playing in Europe against opposition defences that aren’t as direct and strikers who aren’t as physical.

A good confidence booster for the former Twente captain.

John Souttar – 7

Brought his outstanding form for Scotland to the Light Blue of Rangers and got little wrong throughout the night.

Nicolas Raskin – 9

Rangers can build this team around Nicolas Raskin as the Belgian continues his good form for the club.

On this sort of performance, his dream of playing in the Premier League doesn’t seem quite as far fetched.

Connor Barron – 8

If Raskin doesn’t get you, Connor Barron will. The dynamic duo never seemed to be more than a few yards apart.

They out ran and out fought their Ligue 1 engine room opponents.

Nedim Bajrami – 7

Slaughtered by Ally McCoist for not tracking his runner, Bajrami had a good night aside from the odd defensive lapse.

Seemed to have more of a license to drift across the park and got involved in some good attacking play.

Mohamed Diomande – 8

Much more like it from Mohamed Diomande and he looked every inch the £4.3m signing.

Scored a stunning goal and put in the hard graft too in a more box-to-box role, the position is his if he maintains this type of form.

Hamza Igamane – 9

Loses a mark for not opening the scoring sooner, however, aside from this, it was the best performance from a Rangers striker this season.

Pressed intelligently, held the ball up, linked play and hassled Nice defenders.

Vaclav Cerny – 8

So often Rangers go-to man this season and the Czechia winger was at it again with the opening goal.

Was a constant threat against the Ligue 1 side and unlucky not to end the match with an assist or another goal to his name.

Substitutes

James Tavernier – 6

Seemed to enjoy coming on with the game all but won and with the opposition tiring, defended well and got up to support the attack too.

Ross McCausland – 6

Given the 4-0 scoreline when he came on, McCausland’s defensive efforts were outstanding and helped to lockdown the right-hand side.

Cyriel Dessers – 4

Seemed determined to make something happen after losing his starting place but couldn’t quite provide a cutting edge.

Missed an absolute sitter with the 90th minute approaching in the latest to add to his collection.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 7

Incredible impact, within a minute of coming off the bench for Diomande, the Turkey international nearly scored twice only to be denied by two fine stops from the Nice keeper.

Impressed at left wing in what could be a new role for Ridvan.

Bailey Rice – 5

Learned a good lesson at the sharp end of elite football.

Lost his man, gave away a free-kick with a “clever” foul only to see the resultant effort end up in the back of the net.
