Philippe Clement was livid with his Rangers side following their defeat to St Mirren last week.

And the Belgian has rung the changes in their clash with Motherwell this afternoon to remind his squad who is boss.

Clement has made SEVEN changes to his starting XI for the fixture at Fir Park in the aftermath of the 2-1 loss in Paisley in a move which might have surprised punters to that extent.

Out goes Leon Balogun, Jefte, Connor Barron, Vaclav Cerny, Nedim Bajrami, Ianis Hagi and Hamza Igamane.

In comes Robin Propper, Ridvan Yilmaz, man of the moment Nico Raskin, Kieran Dowell, Oscar Cortes, Danilo and Cyriel Dessers.

Philippe Clement has made seven changes vs Motherwell

But at least two of the swaps were made by the manager as necessities.

Clement has revealed Hagi – who he would have picked to start – has been unable to make it through the weekly training with a bug.

And Cerny, on loan from Wolfsburg, is shattered and needs a rest.

“It is because of the circumstances, and illness,” Clement told BBC Sportsound.

“Ianis Hagi would normally start this game but it’s not possible because he came in ill and has a fever now so you can’t play a game like that.

“Then there’s Cerny has been playing double the minutes he played all season last year. He’s getting tired.

“The performance staff warned of injury if we keep starting with him and getting a lot of minutes.

“Same with Hamza, same with Jefte, they’ve played a lot the last couple of weeks. So we were forced to make some changes.”

Pushed on being confident that the starting XI he picked can get his team “back on track” with a victory, Clement was convinced.

Rangers must win at Fir Park after a starting XI overhaul

“Of course. That’s what Rangers is about. All the players in the squad need to be able to win the games against the other opponents in the league otherwise you can’t be part of the squad.

“It’s a good test of the depth of the squad. There are several players coming out of injury like Cortes‘ first game back.

“We need to get him back, he was an important player before his injury, he’s had a few injuries now.

“Ridvan has played well in the last few weeks at a higher position so he has a bit more rhythm and can now play in his normal position. So that’s about finding balance.

“And Cyriel coming back into the team, he has scored a lot of goals before.”
