Kilmarnock star Chris Burke is set to be tasked with handing a title blow to his former club Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
The veteran winger has been in excellent form this season and will be a key part of Alex Dyer’s plan to get the better of Steven Gerrard for the second time.
The Ayrshire side were dealt a big blow in the build-up to the match with centre-back, Clevid Dikamona ruled out through injury [Sky Sports].
They have also earned less than half the total number of points secured by the Gers this season, despite having only played one game less.
Yet, they’ll be confident that they can get something from the game, given that Gerrard has lost at Rugby Park three times since being appointed as Rangers manager in the summer of 2018.
Burke scored in one of those Killie wins, on the final day of the 2018/19 season, and he comes into this game in fine fettle.
The 36-year-old – who spent seven years at Ibrox between 2002 and 2009 – has a goal and three assists in his last four Premiership appearances.
Burke did his old club a favour back in August when his cooly taken penalty led to Celtic dropping points in a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park.
However, he’ll be out to hand a blow to Gerrard and co. in this one with the title race finely poised.
With Celtic in Scottish Cup action, a win for the Gers would stretch their lead at the top of the table to nine points.
Yet, a defeat would reduce their advantage to little more than a psychological one, as the Hoops would only trail by six points with two games in hand.
Another former Rangers player, Kirk Broadfoot, has played every minute for Killie in the league this season and is set to start the game at centre-back.
