Rangers captain James Tavernier has heaped the praise on Mohamed Diomande after the Ivorian opened his account in the win over St Johnstone.
In a stuffy game at McDiarmid Park, the 23-year-old January signing sent a right-footed rocket into the back of the net to open the scoring eight minutes from half-time.
Rangers captain James Tavernier would then complete a 3-0 victory with a penalty kick double in the match but Mohamed Diomande was the focus of post-match conversation.
And the Ibrox skipper praised the young Ivorian for his contribution against the Saints but also in how well ‘Dio’ has settled into the Ibrox ranks.
James Tavernier praises Mohamed Diomande
Speaking to Sky Sports after the clash with St Johnstone, James Tavernier reflected on the contribution of Mohamed Diomande as the midfielder got his first Rangers goal.
The Gers skipper then went on to touch on fellow January signings Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva, who also started the match in Perth.
“We obviously came here to get the three points,” said Tavernier. “It was a tough game with the pitch but I thought we dealt with it really well.
“We kept on going, great goal from Dio to start us off and then obviously we just kept on asking questions.
“We’re always asking questions and we’ve got a variety of how we can score now, which is really good for the team and Dio popped up at the edge of the box and it was a great strike, it was a great goal.
Tavernier later added: “We just kept on getting the momentum, every week and every game we’re getting stronger and stronger.
“The likes of Dio coming into the team, starting today getting a goal from himself. Credit to himself, he’s really settled in really well and Oscar (Cortes) has came in and Fabio (Silva), so we’re working really well as a team.
“Anyone who is asked to come off the bench or to start is really putting in performance which is really good to see.”
Rangers scorer talks St Johnstone goal
Mohamed Diomande – who was named Player of the Match v St Johnstone – has also been discussing his first goal for Rangers at full-time.
Claiming that he feels “happy” for getting his first goal, the January signing has also been talking about settling into Scottish football.
“I feel good, I feel happy,” said Diomande. “It was a good moment and I saw the moment and I took my strike. I’m happy I got my first goal.

“I think it’s been amazing and I’m happy to be playing with my teammates and I’m happy that they are there helping me settle in.
“It’s my first start in the Scottish league and my happy to get three points with my teammates and we look forward.”
Rangers signed Mohamed Diomande on a loan-to-buy deal from FC Nordsjælland, the club set to complete the £4.3m purchase in the summer.
