Fenerbahce vs Rangers: What we noticed in training as Cyriel Dessers goes in a huff and treatment room sits empty

Rangers are in Turkey to face a Fenerbahce side full of household names, even if some of them are in the twilight of their respective careers.

Edin Dzeko has been branded a “genius” and will be one to keep an eye on in what could be a fascinating battle with Leon Balogun.

Barry Ferguson will be hoping that Balogun and John Souttar come through training unscathed with their appearance in the latest video from Auchenhowie not the only thing that caught the eye.

What we noticed as Rangers prepare for Fenerbahce

The most obvious observation was that, although a bit late, is that the Rangers squad is almost at full fitness.

Players like Dujon Sterling and Oscar Cortes might not be 100%, however, they are back in full training and should be looking to build up their minutes.

Billy Dodds made an immediate impression in the first session under Ferguson and the former striker continues to be a high energy influence.

Taking part in warm-up rondos, Dodds never stopped running or shouting encouragement at the Rangers players he was working with – and it showed when the drills were finished as he puffed out his cheeks.

He’d made his point though because, if an out of shape retired player in his 50s can do it, why can’t they?

Is Cyriel Dessers dropped for Rangers?

Usually, the Rangers No.9 is a bubbly character during training, however, there was one moment where he didn’t see the funny side.

Working in the middle of a rondo, Dessers was nutmegged by Neil McCann and he looked fuming.

There was no laughing or joking that would normally accompany such an incident.

Either that, or McCann has been scathing of Dessers on punditry duty in the past.

Rangers will have to be considerably better than they have been in recent weeks if they are to take any sort of result back to Ibrox that keeps the tie against Fenerbahce alive.

Not just the tie, but Rangers season.
