Rangers striker Fabio Silva cracked a wry smile as Ibrox fans sung his name during a post-match ViaPlay Cup interview.

The Portuguese attacker, 21, once again impressed in a competitive clash with Ayr United at Ibrox, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 victory.

Whilst it wasn’t a vintage performance from Rangers or the £35m Wolves loanee, Fabio Silva continued to endear himself to the Ibrox legions with his relentless energy and commitment to the cause.

Speaking with ViaPlay after the match, it’s clear the striker is enjoying himself at Ibrox and he couldn’t resist reacting as Rangers fans sung his name come full-time.

Fabio Silva relishes support from Rangers fans

Fabio Silva was speaking to Emma Dodds and Stephen Craigan at full-time of Rangers’ win over Ayr United when fans begun chanting his name.

Reacting to the moment by smiling and then waving, here’s what the striker had to say when asked about playing in front of the supporters.

“It’s amazing for sure,” said Silva, as he gestured to the Rangers fans. “The best of football is the fans.

“We have the support of these fans. This team is special, to play here is so special, the environment. They always sing for 90 minutes so for me it’s unbelievable to be here.”

Earlier in the interview the striker had said he was growing in “confidence” under Philippe Clement at Rangers and that he is “very happy to be here”.

Wolves loanee could extend Ibrox deal

The Fabio Silva strike against Ayr United was certainly well-earned in a match which was a potential banana skin for Rangers.

With ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown returning to Ibrox as the Honest Men’s manager, it provided an extra dimension to the clash which also saw the likes of ex-Rangers stars Jamie Murphy and Stephen Whittaker back at the club.

But despite spirited Ayr United resistance, Rangers ran out comfortable 2-0 winners with Borna Barisic scoring in the first and Fabio Silva in the second.

The striker’s second strike in Rangers colours, all that chatter about the club’s need for a new frontman has begun to dissipate.

The challenge for Fabio Silva now is to kick on and lead that line for Rangers in what remains of the season and – you never know – we might just see him back at Ibrox next campaign.
