Cyriel Dessers joked that his Rangers teammates are saving the goals for when they really need them after the win over Ross County.

The Ibrox number 9 scored a double in the clash with the Staggies with John Souttar adding a third in a 3-1 Rangers win.

But that did not tell the full story of the match, with Rangers spurning a host of opportunities and having a total of 43 shots.

Cyriel Dessers on Ross County chances

Cyriel Dessers could’ve had plenty more goals himself, the striker taking 10 of those shots, with the double the least fans expected from the striker’s 70 minutes.

It wasn’t just the 29-year-old who was wasteful in front of goal and, even if fans can’t fault the team’s efforts, a lack of ruthlessness will hurt us unless it’s worked out of our game.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Dessers lamented the poor finishing but also joked that perhaps the squad are saving the strikes for when they really need them!

“We had a lot of chances there,” said Dessers. “We were sometimes unlucky, sometimes the finishing could’ve been better. Their goalkeeper had a lot of saves.

“But yeah let’s save these goals for the rest of the season and in the games where we really, really need them to win!

“We just kept doing what we’re always doing or what we tried to do and I hope next time we are a little more lucky when we need it.”

Rangers striker targeting more goals

The Ibrox double takes Cyriel Dessers’ scoring stats for the season to an impressive 14 goals despite substantial criticism in the Rangers forward.

Discussing his own form come the end of the game, the striker has pledged to keep working hard and hopefully contribute even more to the side.

“I’m in a good place right now and I want to stay there,” said Dessers.

“I think I am coming to a lot of good positions to score, a lot of chances like today and then it’s all about the efficiency.

“If we can get it up or I can get it up even more then I can provide a lot of goals for the team and the rest of the season.”

Cyriel Dessers has made 35 appearances for Rangers since joining the club from Cremonese and has added 7 assists to his return of 14 strikes.
