Rangers v Ross County – player ratings

A much changed line-up was set out with an intensity that meant business, here is how they scored:

Jack Butland – 6

Was left exposed at Ross County’s equaliser and faced a direct threat at every set-piece against a big opposition.

James Tavernier – 9

A game that could have been one of the skipper’s best for Rangers if he had his shooting boots on, got into some great positions but couldn’t add a goal to his three assists.

An unbelievable amount of running.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 6

Not his best game for Rangers in that nothing seemed to come off for him in the final third, although, like Tavernier, his work rate couldn’t be faulted.

Connor Goldson – 6

It’s not easy defending a whole half and playing almost one-v-one but there were too many scary moments when the vice-captain should have done better.

John Souttar – 6

Like Goldson, didn’t have his most secure evening and a soft corner typified his game.

On too many occasions he let Ross County strikers get the better of him but made the last five minutes a lot more comfortable with his second goal for the club.

John Lundstram – 6

Got through a power of work in the middle of the park but didn’t have the same control that he has had in recent weeks.

Tested the keeper on a number of occasions.

Tom Lawrence – 7

The more effective of the two midfielders and picked the ball up in some dangerous areas.

He’ll be wondering what else he has to do to get a goal.

Todd Cantwell – 7

Seemed to be everwhere for Rangers trying to make something happen and carried the ball with pace whenever he got the opportunity to drive forward.

Drew a great save from long range looking for the top corner.

Rabbi Matondo – 4

A constant threat but could easily have walked off at half-time with the match ball.

Because he didn’t, he didn’t come back out after half-time.

Ross McCausland – 4

The boss defended him this week but he needs to start doing more than working hard.

Didn’t really create anything or look like scoring despite all our possession.

Ineffective.

Cyriel Dessers – 9

Not everyone’s cup of tea, however, you can’t argue with two goals and only being denied a first-half hat-trick by good goalkeeping.

Substitutes

Oscar Cortes – 8

More control than Matondo and was a goal-line clearance away from his first Rangers goal.

Mohamed Diomande – 7

Replaced Lawrence and moved the ball quickly as he looked to get up to speed with the game.

Scott Wright – 6

Got into some great positions but end product let him down, should have pulled the trigger rather than squaring it late on.

Fabio Silva – 6

Created a different type of problem for Ross County as Rangers chased a third, forced a good save.
