Confusion as Phiippe Clement hooks Kemar Roofe early as striker storms off

If there was one player who was looking to make a positive impact against St Johnstone it was Kemar Roofe, the Rangers striker desperate to reclaim his position as first choice striker.

In his only season where he was consistently available, the Jamaica international finished as top goalscorer and, even to this day, is still our best in terms of goals to minutes ratio.

Kemar Roofe just can’t buy a break and, despite surgery earlier in 2023, he continues to suffer with injury problems and lasted just 15 minutes at Ibrox tonight.

Kemar Roofe struggles for Rangers continue after early exit

The commentary team of Tom Miller and Gordon Smith on RTV seemed confused at first after seeing Philippe Clement and the 30-year old engage in an exchange.

As we have seen already with the Gers boss though, he isn’t one for sentiment and hooked Roofe.

Whether it was for treatment or because he wasn’t happy with the call, Kemar Roofe stormed down the tunnel without the slightest hint of a limp as he headed for the Rangers dressing room.

Just 15 minutes later and the manager was justified in his call when Cyriel Dessers fired the Light Blues in front for his ninth goal of the season as his good run of goalscoring form continues.

As for Roofe though, if there were any doubts about his future at the club, surely those have all been firmly put to bed.

Being able to come off the bench is one thing but Philippe Clement needs so much more than that, especially with Dessers almost having to do it on his own now.

What this surely means now is that a striker becomes a priority in January, it’s just a shame that the manager can’t do what some of his predecessors used to do and go out and add to the squad now for the next few of games.
