Celtic vs Rangers: Old Firm TV channel, kick-off time, team news, referee & VAR

Just a few games into the new season, Rangers travel to Parkhead for an Old Firm derby against table-toppers Celtic.

The Light Blues remain unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership but trail Celtic by a couple of points having drawn the opening game of the campaign against Hearts.

What Philippe Clement doesn’t want is a five-point gap to open up between the two Glasgow rivals this early in the season – given the atmosphere around the club at the moment, that would be catastrophic.

Celtic are a well-oiled machine and as painful as it is to admit, Rangers are not quite at their level at the start of this season.

Rangers – despite the business conducted across the summer transfer window – have an inferior squad which doesn’t bode well for the big game.

It is a derby, however. Anything can happen. But Rangers are seriously up against it at Parkhead where once again, there won’t be an away support to cheer Clement’s team on.

Below, Rangers News has everything you need to know about the Old Firm including how to watch on TV, the latest team news, an injury round-up plus the appointed officials.

Celtic vs Rangers kick-off time

Rangers play their first Old Firm derby of the 2024/25 season against Celtic on Sunday, September 1 at Celtic Park. Kick-off is at 12:30pm.

Celtic vs Rangers TV channel

Celtic vs Rangers will be broadcast live on TV. You will be able to watch the game on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels. The coverage will begin at 11:30am, one hour before kick-off.

Rangers supporters living outside the UK and Ireland can watch the Old Firm on RangersTV provided they have an international subscription package.

If you are out and about, you can listen to live BBC Sportsound radio commentary of the game.

Rangers team and injury news

Philippe Clement will speak to the press at the Rangers Training Centre on Saturday after the conclusion of transfer deadline day.

The Belgian intimated last week that he expects his full first-team squad to be fit and ready bar Ridvan Yilmaz for the Old Firm away trip versus the Hoops.

That means defender Robin Propper and winger Oscar Cortes have a chance of returning to first-team action after injuries.

Rangers may get a glimpse of some new signings at Parkhead on Sunday in what would be the true definition of a baptism of fire.

Old Firm referee & VAR

The officials for Celtic vs Rangers were confirmed earlier in the week. The on-field referee will be John Beaton and his assistants will be Daniel McFarlane and Jonathan Bell.

Andrew Dallas will be the VAR while Graeme Stewart has been confirmed as his AVAR.
