Barry Ferguson makes feelings clear on Celtic controversy vs Rangers after what he saw last week

Barry Ferguson has reacted to a controversial incident he watched closely as Rangers lost 3-1 to Celtic on Sunday.

This has proved to be another disastrous season for the Light Blues, who are forced to settle for a third-place finish after their defeat in the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.

The least Rangers could do was hinder Celtic’s title hopes, but that plan, too, flopped, putting Danny Rohl under immense pressure at Ibrox.

Who do you see replacing him?

Barry Ferguson believes Alistair Johnston should have been sent off against Rangers

Ferguson is of the view that Alistair Johnston should have been given the marching orders for his challenge on Mikey Moore.

Johnston got the ball first, but his studs-up challenge saw him also tackle the Tottenham loanee with the follow-through.

The Gers believed the Celtic man put Moore in danger with his challenge, but the officials did not deem it so, with referee Nick Walsh sticking with his on-field decision.

Ferguson, though, called out the lack of consistency with such decisions and pointed out how Jamie McGrath was sent off for a similar incident against Johnston last Sunday.

In his view, the Celtic player should not have been allowed to continue.

He said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I thought it was a red card. I think it was the previous week, similar [incident], the Hibs player got sent off against Alistair Johnston.

“For me, [it is a] lack of consistency. Look, I’m not saying it would have changed the game, who knows, but when I was watching it, I thought to myself – and I’ve seen it slowed down – it was a red card.”

Is Danny Rohl safe at Ibrox?

Rangers were firmly in the title race up until a few weeks ago, but three consecutive defeats following the split have seen them drop to third place.

This raised major concerns about Rohl’s credentials to take the Ibrox outfit forward, although he has not had a full season with the club.

Therefore, the hierarchy have a decision to make regarding the former Sheffield Wednesday boss when the season draws to a close.

Steven Gerrard is again being linked with a move back to Glasgow, but it remains to be seen if the board unanimously agrees that Rohl is not the man to lead the team next term.
