Rangers came from a goal down to defeat Motherwell 3-1 at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon to stretch their lead at the top of the Premiership table to 16 points.

Callum Lang put the visitors ahead in just the sixth minute and they quickly camped inside their own half to protect their advantage.

The Gers were frustrated for long spells but showed real character to turn the game around and maintain their 100% home record.

Kemar Roofe fired high into the net from six yards in the 73rd minute, Cedric Itten headed home at the back post in the 82nd to put his side in front and Roofe grabbed a second in injury time to add gloss to the scoreline.

Here’s how we thought the players fared:

Allan McGregor – 6

Conceded inside ten minutes on his 275th league appearance for the club. Could do little about the goal and was largely a spectator thereafter.

James Tavernier – 6

Switched off as Lang opened the scoring and missed a free header at the back post in the first half. Went close with a free-kick and offered an outlet down the right flank. A rare goalless outing.

Connor Goldson – 6

Less dominant in the air than he has been for the majority of the season. His passing range was on display as he pushed high in the second half to influence things.

Filip Helander – 6

Took time to settle after a month and a half out of action. Barely tested defensively after Motherwell’s opener.

Borna Barisic – 5

Failed to get out to stop the cross that led to the opening goal which made life difficult for Rangers straight away. Provided threat with a few dangerous crosses from the left but none were converted.

Steven Davis – 7

Gave possession away on a couple of occasions early on but pulled the strings thereafter, showing real patience, quality and invention on the ball. Saw goal ruled out for offside.

Scott Arfield – 5

Showed glimpses in attack in the first half but a very quiet outing for a player who has been superb all season. Subbed for Hagi after an hour.

Glen Kamara – 5

Neat and tidy in possession as usual, but didn’t have much of an impact as Motherwell sat in. Subbed at half-time for Aribo.

Kemar Roofe – 8

Very quiet in the first half but much sharper in the second period. Reacted quickly and finished emphatically for the equaliser. Missed a big chance with a header just minutes later, but a second brilliant finish took him to double figures for the season.

Ryan Kent – 6

After a quiet start, he regularly looked to inject pace and take on opposition players. Lacked quality with his final ball at times but assisted Roofe’s equaliser. Subbed for Zungu late on.

Jermain Defoe – 6

Was extremely sharp early on and forced Archer into several saves with quickly taken shots. Struggled to get into the game after the break. Subbed for Itten after 70 minutes.

Joe Aribo – 7

Injected urgency and showed real quality with his dribbling and link-up play. Did brilliantly in the box to set up Roofe’s second.

Ianis Hagi – 6

Introduced to try to make things happen and made a nuisance of himself in the lead up to Itten’s goal.

Cedric Itten – 7

Brought on to seek out opportunities in the box and headed in his first chance to complete the comeback. Held the ball up well in the closing stages and played a role in the third.

Bongani Zungu – n/a

Introduced for final stages to help to see out the win.
