Rangers fans mixed on £2.7m man as some fail to see the "hype"

As Rangers fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of St. Mirren none of the club’s players exactly covered themselves in glory.

The Ibrox side was on awful form to crash out of the League Cup in a rare blip during what’s been an otherwise remarkable season for Steven Gerrard and his team.

But one much-hyped player grabbed the attention of supporters as he was handed only his third start in a Rangers shirt in Paisley.

Rangers fans are largely mixed over the state of play regarding South African international and Amiens loanee Bongani Zungu.

The midfielder joined Rangers in early-October but following a quarantine from France and a lack of training is only now in a position to make an impact in the team.

Ask some fans and they think that they’ve got a top-level deep-lying playmaker who can spray the ball about like he’s been playing at Rangers for years.

Ask others and they genuinely cannot see what the fuss is all about.

Whilst there’s a general acceptance that it’s too early to judge Zungu either way his 72 minutes against St. Mirren was the subject of much debate on Twitter in the aftermath of the match.

Rangers crashed out of the Betfred Cup courtesy of a 3-2 defeat to St. Mirren, ending a run of 27 games without defeat this season.

The result also brings into question the mentality of Steven Gerrard and his side after the club missed out on a seventh domestic trophy in a row.
