Rangers Predicted XI for Europa League qualifier vs Galatasaray

Rangers face Galatasaray in a winner-takes-all Europa League qualifier at Ibrox on Thursday night.

There’ll be no capacity crowd to get behind the Gers but thousands will be willing Steven Gerrard’s men on from home, as they bid to reach the group stages for the third consecutive season.

Confidence should be high within the group after convincing wins over Willem II and Motherwell, but the performance level will need to be raised once again if they are to emerge victorious from this one.

Allan McGregor was superb in the third-round qualifier in the Netherlands and will keep his place in goal, while the in-form James Tavernier is set to continue as skipper at right-back.

Leon Balogun is back to full fitness but Filip Helander has been impressive on European nights since his arrival at the club and he’s likely to partner Connor Goldson at centre-back.

Calvin Bassey impressed in his first start for the club at left-back against Motherwell but Croatia international Borna Barisic is nailed on to return to the side after benefitting from a rare rest at the weekend.

In midfield, the trio of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield are likely to retain their spots despite Ryan Jack returning to training at the back end of last week following a calf problem.

The manager has a few selection headaches in the final third following strong weekend displays from Jordan Jones and Cedric Itten.

Jones was excellent on his long-awaited return to the side at Fir Park and Itten bagged his first goals for the club off the bench.

However, Ianis Hagi and Alfredo Morelos are big-game players, as they each showed on several occasions in Europe last season and they are likely to beat off the competition to make the starting lineup.

Hagi’s father Gheorghe played for Galatasaray and the Romania international was born in Istanbul, so he’s likely to be fired up for this one.

The consistently outstanding Ryan Kent will be the other player providing support for El Bufalo, who netted a brace in the second-round qualifier against Lincoln Red Imps.
