Gerrard hints at possible Wallace return for Rangers vs Hearts

Steven Gerrard has been previewing tonight’s clash against Hearts, as quoted by the Daily Record.
He has already admitted that he faces a selection headache at left-back.

Borna Barisic is still sidelined with a hamstring injury and Andy Halliday is suspended.

Therefore, naturally, a return for Lee Wallace has been suggested.

The 31-year-old former captain hasn’t been involved in a matchday squad in 2019. In fact, two substitute appearances represent the sub-total of his involvement this season.
Yet, when asked about a possible comeback, his manager left the door ajar.

“Of course he is an option”, said Gerrard, as quoted by the Record.

“He’s one of us. He’s training. I’ll make that decision in the next couple of hours.”
The training gallery uploaded to the club’s website corroborates Gerrard’s comments.

Verdict

The choice of wording here is a little surprising from Gerrard.
It’s clearly not just footballing reasons that have left Lee Wallace out in the cold.

However, by saying ‘he’s one of us’, the manager is apparently ignoring the fact he has been treated differently all season.
I still believe Jon Flanagan is favourite to start at left-back tonight.
After these comments, though, we may just see Wallace return to the squad.
