Aberdeen star Connor Barron has signed with a new agency amid growing Rangers murmurs ahead of the ViaPlay Cup Final.

The out-of-contract midfielder, 21, has been announced at the UK-based PLG Agency on Instagram as he mulls over his future come the end of the season.

PLG have a host of established stars both north and south of the border on their roster, with the likes of Trent Alexander Arnold & Andrew Robertson at Liverpool as well as several players attached to Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Aberdeen‘s Connor Barron and Rangers murmurs

A product of the Pittodrie youth department, Connor Barron has been analysed by Rangers News before but recently murmurs have spread online regarding potential interest.

Whilst these rumours are yet to be validated, the Scotland U21 midfielder certainly fits the bill as Rangers try to boost their homegrown quota for European competition.

With the future of another Pittodrie Academy product at Rangers up in the air in the shape of Ryan Jack, Barron may well be viewed as the Ibrox star’s heir.

Having signed with a new agency, many Aberdeen fans view the situation as Connor Barron engineering his ticket out of the northeast but it remains unclear if Rangers are directly involved.

The Ibrox side are expected to ramp up their player trading under new Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen but as things stand there has been no official links between the two parties.

Dons want to keep Scotland youth midfielder

As the Rangers murmurs have ramped up, Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows has been pressed on the situation surrounding Connor Barron.

Speaking at the Dons’ AGM – which was staged on the week they face Rangers in the League Cup Final – the ex-Motherwell chief admits the situation surrounding the midfielder represents a “risk”.

In ominous comments, Burrows admits the Dons want to complete a deal but it certainly appears like Aberdeen are not convinced Barron will sign.

“He isn’t far away from going into the final six months of his contract and that puts him at a higher risk,” said Burrows. “We would like to see him stay at the club and we will see how it goes.”

Should they be interested, Rangers will be able to negotiate with Connor Barron directly from next month.

Barron made his Dons debut in January 2022 and since then has gone on to make 51 appearances for the club, scoring once.

This season, the ex-Brechin and Kelty Hearts loanee has made 17 appearances for the Dons but has not featured in their last two Premiership games.
