Rangers should take Borna Barisic inspiration as Lukas Haraslin nets double

Sparta Prague forward Lukas Haraslin has taken his Rangers goalscoring form into international duties with Slovakia.

The 27-year-old attacker netted twice for Slovakia as they dispatched Iceland 4-2 on Euro qualifying duties.

As a result, the nation has secured its spot at Euro 2024 in Germany with a game to spare by finishing second behind Portugal in Group G.

With Philippe Clement looking towards his first transfer window at Rangers, we’d be surprised if Lukas Haraslin didn’t catch the Belgian’s eye at a recent clash in Glasgow.

Lukas Haraslin on form for club and country

Rangers fans will remember Lukas Haraslin from the recent Europa League Qualifier against Sparta Prague at Ibrox.

The Slovakian international – who spent time playing in Serie A – is just coming back from an early-season injury and was only fit enough to start on the bench v Rangers.

Having missed the previous clash in Czechia, where Rangers survived by the skin of their teeth to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw, the attacker’s looks increasingly like a major blow.

Firing the ball hard over the top of Jack Butland at ibrox, the attacker went on to score Sparta Prague’s goal in the eventual 2-1 Rangers victory in the Europa League.

Haraslin – who wears the number 22 for Sparta – played the ball out to the right before finding space for himself in the box to take the return pass and then finishing with ruthless class.

After firing in goals number four and five for Slovakia, it’s clear Lukas Haraslin is going through a purple patch and Rangers should be paying attention.

Rangers should take Borna Barisic inspiration

Back in 2018, Rangers faced off against Borna Barisic in a Europa League qualifier.

The Ibrox side were fighting through Steven Gerrard’s first ever Europa League qualification run and came up against Croatian side NK Osijek.

Rangers won 1-0 in Osijek – Alfredo Morelos scoring in a mysterious red kit – with a 1-1 draw at Ibrox, where Barisic scored, guaranteeing the Ibrox side’s progression.

Steven Gerrard then moved to sign Borna Barisic, who has been at Ibrox ever since, and the rest is Rangers history.

Whilst there is some conjecture over the future of Borna, could Rangers take inspiration when it comes to Lukas Haraslin?

A forward who impressed v Rangers on Europa League duties, the attacker’s latest exploits in helping Slovakia qualify for Euro 2024 will only add a sense of interest.

With some big questions on the horizon as we look to Philipe Clement’s first transfer window, perhaps a direct, goalscoring winger type is going to be first on the Belgian’s shopping list.

At 27-years-old the transfer would represent a sell-on risk but Rangers need players to come into the side and deliver now.

Lukas Haraslin is proving himself at the top level and certainly appears to be recognising the early potential which saw him wind up in Italy with Sassuolo.
