Rangers players impacted as Ukraine request Scotland postponement

The Ukraine national team have requested a postponement of their upcoming World Cup Qualifier with Scotland, with the move having a knock-on effect to several Rangers players.

Gers back-up keeper Jon McLaughlin is a shoo-in to be included in Steve Clarke’s squad whilst the returning Ryan Jack could also be a surprise addition in the coming weeks.

However, due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine the eastern European nation have reportedly appealed to FIFA to postpone the match.

This is because several players have signed up to join the fight against Russia with the domestic league suspended until March 26th, two days after the original date of the Playoff.

Scotland have previously pledged support to Ukraine

Should FIFA accept the postponement – likely until later this year – then it appears unlikely the Scottish FA would stand in the country’s way.

This is after the Scotland FA previously release a statement vowing to do everything in its power to help Ukraine during the crisis.

“The Scottish FA President, Rod Petrie, has written to his counterpart at the Ukrainian Association of Football to send a message of support, friendship and unity,” reads an SFA statement.

“Football is inconsequential amid conflict, but we have conveyed the strong sense of solidarity communicated to us by Scotland fans and citizens in recent days.

“We remain in dialogue with UEFA and FIFA regarding our men’s FIFA World Cup Play-off and women’s World Cup qualifier and have offered to support our Ukrainian colleagues’ preparations as best we can in these unimaginably difficult circumstances.

“Should the current circumstances continue, we will not sanction the nomination of a team to participate in our scheduled UEFA Regions Cup fixture against Russia, due to be played in August.

“This will remain our position should any other fixtures arise at any level of international football.”

Meanwhile, one Rangers loanee is reportedly set to have his contract ripped up in the summer according to reports on the continent.
