Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been talking up his commitment to the Colombia national team – as Gers fans prepare for yet another call-up ahead of an Old Firm clash with Celtic.
Ahead of the last clash at Celtic Park – a painful 3-0 defeat on the road after a tepid first 45 minutes – Rangers were dealt a huge blow by the news that Alfredo Morelos was to be called up.
But the striker was not even in the squad for defeats to Peru and Argentina, something later criticised by the player’s agent amid Morelos’ continued good form for Rangers.
As the forward continues to score goals at Ibrox, it looks increasingly likely he will be called up again for the Colombia national team and jetting off halfway across the globe mid-season.
This time around, the matches take place during a global international break with matches against Bolivia (24/03) and Venezuela (29/03) to come in World Cup Qualification.
Alfredo Morelos reaffirms Colombia commitment
With the Old Firm game to take place just a few days later on the weekend of April 2nd – a potentially pivotal match in the title race – then Rangers fans are right to have fears regarding a call-up.
Is it wise for Alfie to jet-off to South America only to not be involved in Reinaldo Rueda’s underperforming side?
For the striker, representing his country remains a great privilege and whether it’s on the pitch, on the bench or in the stands, Morelos is honoured to be supporting the Colombia team.
“As a player, one feels proud to accompany the National Team in the stands,” said Alfredo Morelos [ESPN Colombia].
“I feel happy personally, I am always supporting my teammates. The results were not given, it is football.
“We have to keep going, we have experienced people, there are two games left and we have to do things in the best way, I always want to be there. Wearing this shirt is the cutest thing.”
Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has also been heaping praise on an international teammate who is currently making waves at Liverpool.
