Rangers full-back Nathan Patterson might’ve been dropped by Scotland for the trip to the Faroe Islands, but the Ibrox teenager changed the game when he came off the bench.
With Scotland toiling and a potentially embarrassing 0-0 draw on the horizon, up stepped Patterson to whip a lovely ball into Lyndon Dykes who scored the eventual winner just minutes after the Gers star was introduced.
😍 That assist from @np4tterson.

Amongst Rangers fans frustrated at Steve Clarke’s decision to drop the 19-year-old right-back, there was a feeling of vindication.
Whilst it’s important not to bemoan decisions taken within the Scotland camp for the sake of it – Patterson started the bigger game against Israel – so long as a question remains over Patterson’s involvement Gers fans will continue to plead the player’s case.
Already challenging Ibrox stalwart and relentless Rangers captain James Tavernier for the right-back berth in Glasgow, there is no-one better equipped to play the position for the national side.
This is just a fact.
Whilst perhaps some Rangers fans can be guilty of overemphasising Patterson, there have also been murmurs from those who hold a more anti-Rangers sentiment that the youngster shouldn’t be an automatic starter.
Remember those pleas to have Celtic full-back Anthony Ralston in front of him?
There is a genuine limbo here regarding who holds the shirt on the right side of defence with Patterson deposed by Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser for the trip to Torshavn and Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell another who has laid claim to the position in the past.
But for Rangers fans, Patterson’s contribution to the Scotland victory over the Faroes is further evidence that for the nationals side there is only one choice when it comes to right-back:
…aaaaand that’s why you pick Nathan Patterson.

VAR having a good long look at the Scotland goal – nothing really to check, the video ref just wanted longer to admire Nathan Patterson’s cross.

Patterson on the field for 2 minutes. Great cross, goal. Stop all the nonsense and play the kid from the start.

Nathan Patterson is easily a 15-20 million pound player. 19 Years of age, plays with a confidence i haven't seen since Barry Ferguson. The world at his feet. @RangersFC take note😉

Remember the outrage about Nathan Patterson being selected over Shaun Rooney. 😂

It's not a "right back debate" anymore, in fact It barely even qualifies conversation at this point. No other option there gives you the end product he does, not even close.

Nathan Patterson has now made five caps for the Scotland national team and he’s certainly making a case for his regular inclusion in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, whilst Patterson celebrates a match-winning contribution for Scotland, the Ibrox youngster isn’t the only Gers star who got an assist on international duty this week.
