The Scottish Sun reports that Jordan Jones has been ‘ruled out’ of Northern Ireland’s upcoming international fixtures.

With the opposition breaking down the right, the red mist descended and Jones hacked down substitute, Moritz Bauer.

The Sky Sports commentary team slammed him for the challenge, and he deservedly received his marching orders.

Having earned a straight red card, he now faces several games on the sidelines while observing a suspension.

Yet, it seems that’s not the end of his punishment.

Injured Rangers winger Jones to miss crunch tie

The injury sustained in the needless lunge means he’ll miss a friendly against Luxembourg at Windsor Park on Thursday evening, as well as the huge Euro 2020 qualifying clash against Germany at the same venue next Monday.

Northern Ireland head into this round of fixtures as Group C leaders with four wins out of four. With the final four games home and away against Germany and Holland, though, things are going to be extremely difficult from here on in.

Consequently, Michael O’Neill is sure to be gutted to be without Jones. The winger earned rave reviews from fans for his performances in the last set of fixtures against Belarus and Estonia as he brings a different dimension to the side.

Now that he’s going to miss the Germany tie, though, O’Neill is going to have to shuffle his pack.

The knock and impending suspension mean the earliest chance of him playing again, is at home to Feyenoord in the Europa League on 19th September.
