Former Rangers kid Robbie Ure has earned a recalls to the Scotland U21s after moving to Anderlecht.

The teenage striker made the decision to move to the Belgian club in the summer despite breaking into the Rangers first team last season.

Scoring in a League Cup win over Queen of the South, there were high hopes Robbie Ure could kick on at Rangers.

But as things transpired, the 19-year-old took a leap at Anderlecht with Robbie Ure following in the footsteps of several young Scots in moving to Europe.

The likes of Aaron Hickey, Josh Doig and Lewis Ferguson have all carved a name out for themselves in Italy, whilst Max Johnston recently moved to Austria.

Scott Gemmill praises Robbie Ure

Speaking after Robbie Ure was recalled to the Scotland U21s, the youth team’s boss Scot Gemmill claims the striker is back on the national team’s radar.

What’s more the Scotland coach has praised the level of Anderlecht’s U21 team, who currently ply their trade in the Belgian Challenger Pro League.

“It’s great to give him an opportunity,” Gemmill said. “Again, it’s another example of us using the chance to have a closer look at him like we have done with many of the players.

“I’m very respectful of the level that he’s playing at. If you do some digging, the level that he’s playing at is very well respected comparatively with some really good leagues around Europe.

“He’s a player that we know really well because of his time at the younger age levels. It’s going to be good to work with him. He’s another example of how our pathway has changed for young players, for sure.

“It’s not always the case that you have all of these attacking options but right now it’s great to be able to select all of these attacking players that are scoring and assisting goals at a really good level.

“There’s no question the pathway has changed for these young players. They’ve all got agents, they can see their peers at the same age or who are slightly older making these moves and getting these opportunities.

“The clubs have got confidence in our players as well. The clubs around Europe can see the proof of our young players going abroad, doing well and making a mark for themselves. That obviously gives them the confidence to give our players chances.”

Since moving to the Anderlecht youth set up in the summer, Robbie Ure has shot his way back into the Scotland reckoning.

The striker has netted four goals in five games and Ibrox fans will be watching the kid’s career closely.

Rangers fans will hope the striker doesn’t prove another who got away as Robbie Ure bounces back in Belgium.
