Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has been dropped from the Colombia squad for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers – and replaced by childhood idol Falcao.
The legendary Colombian goalscorer, 35, has been recalled to the Los Cafeteros squad in place of El Bufalo amid claims of a potential club v country clash over Morelos travelling.
Galatasaray striker Falcao is one of six new additions to the squad as Reinaldo Rueda rings the changes ahead of WCQ clashes with Bolivia (a), Paraguay (a) and Chile (h).
Whilst Morelos might be disappointed to be missing out on the squad, Rangers fans will be delighted due to potential quarantine issues upon his return from South America.
Rangers have already suffered with regards Morelos due to quarantining rules as the player arrived back from South America after the season had kicked off.
If the player was to travel to South America for these fixtures, then according to the Scottish Sun the striker would miss two league games and a European competition opener as a result.
The English Premier League could also be affected by these rules and this is why the division has unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries.
Rangers star Alfredo Morelos, 25, has 11 caps for Colombia, scoring one goal, and was part of the squad that finished 3rd in the Copa America this summer.
The striker is a vital part of how Rangers play and whilst he might be bitterly disappointed to miss out on his national team’s squad, it comes as a sizeable boost to the Ibrox club’s chances.
So far this season the striker has netted three goals and laid on one assist in five Rangers games and Alfredo Morelos is now three goals away from reaching 100 strikes for the Ibrox club.
