Steven Gerrard has provided a Rangers injury update ahead of Friday night’s clash against Hibernian, as captured by RangersTV.

The Gers are already without Alfredo Morelos for the trip to Easter Road, as he’s serving his one-match suspension following a red card against Motherwell.

However, he’s not the only one missing out, as injury problems continue, while illness has struck a player on the comeback trail.

“Davis is close, he won’t be available tomorrow, but if he comes through the next three days he should be available for Boxing Day,” said Gerrard, as captured by RangersTV. “Fil [Helander] won’t be seen until after the winter break.”

“Jordan Jones has trained all week, but he had an illness at the beginning of the week which has set him back a few days.

“I have to decide in the next few hours whether he’s ready for the 18 or whether it’ll be the game after.”

These are blows for Rangers in the long and short term.

Helander had established himself as Connor Goldson’s number one centre-back partner prior to picking up a foot injury in the League Cup final, so it’s a tough break for him to be out of action until after the winter break.

As for Davis, it’s always a negative when he’s not available. The Northern Ireland skipper controls things in the middle of the park and he would have been a certain starter for this away assignment.

Finally, we’ve already discussed how Rangers would benefit from having Jones available for this clash. He’s been out of action for close to four months now, and if Gerrard doesn’t deem him ready after his illness, he may again have limited options to choose from off the bench.
