The new Rangers boss must deal with a potential injury blow to Ibrox attacker Kemar Roofe after the forward was sent home from international duty with Jamaica.

The Jamaican striker, 28, was subbed off with a suspected injury in the Caribbean nation’s 1-1 World Cup Qualifying draw with El Salvador and will miss the clash with the USA.

Roofe lasted 74 minutes in the disappointing result which leaves Jamaica toiling in their efforts to make the tournament in Qatar next year.

The Reggae Boyz are 6th in the final CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying phase, 8 points off the USA in top spot, 7 points off Canada in automatic qualification spot in 3rd and 5 points behind Panama in a Playoff spot in 4th.

There is still time to salvage a spot at the tournament but the nation’s chances to earn a vital three points against leaders USA have been impacted by an injury to Rangers star Roofe.

The situation raises serious doubts over Roofe’s availability for the new Rangers manager in his opening matches in charge and this is a major blow to the club’s chances.

Kemar is Rangers’ top goal scorer this season with his 9 goals in 18 outings making him the Ibrox club’s most potent attacker.

The striker joined Rangers last season in a reported £3.5m deal and has gone on to cement himself as an important member of the first team squad.

Roofe has now netted an impressive 27 goals in 54 games and fans will be worried any knock could keep him out for a sustained spell with the player having issues with injuries in the past.

Rangers are set to enter a remarkably challenging period of the season – and with a new manager to come – if Roofe is out for an extended period of time it’s a major blow to the club.

Fingers crossed this is just precautionary – a snap he shared on Instagram in the gym would suggest he’s at least fit enough to do weight-training.

Rangers can also no longer call on the player who joined on the same day as Roofe, with the international star netting to help his side qualify for the World Cup during the week.
