An official Police Scotland account appeared to indirectly troll Celtic fans as it messaged Rangers fans regarding the scale of the Europa League Final party in Seville.
The official Border Policing Scotland account offered advice to Rangers fans regarding travelling for airports as it described the upcoming mass migration as giving rise to “the largest gathering Sevilla has ever seen”.
Between Rangers fans and their Frankfurt counterparts travelling for the Europa League Final, the comment is probably bang on the money, but we can’t help but feel someone is being a tad cheeky.
Rangers are expected to take anywhere up to 100k fans to Spain for the match with 100k Frankfurt supporters applying for tickets.
Seville is a city of 700k and plenty are not exactly convinced that it’s braced itself for the coming week ahead even if the mayor insists the southern Spanish city will be ready.
Incredibly, the final is set to be held at the 40k Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán with only 9.5k tickets given to both clubs.
But that won’t deter tens of thousands travelling in their numbers without a ticket and the Bears are preparing for a party the likes of which we’ve never seen.
Border Police Scotland brand Rangers trip Seville’s ‘biggest ever’
According to Border Policing Scotland, it’s a party Spain and Seville will never have seen either as they prepare to welcome their largest ever gathering.
Celtic and their supporters have a kind of morose attachment to their own trip to Seville in 2003, where they were beaten UEFA Cup finalists against Jose Mourinho’s FC Porto.
The aftermath of that defeat saw the Celtic support and Celtic-minded journalists fawn over this apparent mass migration to Seville which ranges from anywhere between 50k and 250k depending on who you talk to.
But now the Border Policing Scotland have got the Seville calculator out themselves and are insistent that what Celtic can do, Rangers can do better.
For all the Bears travelling, it’s right to heed the advice and give yourself plenty of time at airports.
