Russell Martin is one name being linked to the job of Rangers manager but club insiders have come together to rubbish the suggestion the Swansea boss could replace Steven Gerrard.
The Ibrox club are bracing themselves for the news that Stevie G is set to move to the Premier League club with reports suggesting that a deal is “all but done”.
Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa all but done as he finalises his backroom staff. I'm expecting an announcement within the next 24 to 48 hours if not sooner. Christian Purslow set to get his man. Villans; fill in our Villa-Gerrard survey https://t.co/78pqVWZ4yU #avfc

Gerrard secured 55 for Rangers and has re-established the side as a European football force, something which fans and the club will be eternally grateful for.
But no man is bigger than the club – especially one who appears to have gone back on his initial word – and attention now turns to who will replace the gaffer at Ibrox.
Russell Martin is not going to be the next Rangers manager
Russell Martin is a former Ibrox defender, having spent a failed six-month stint at the club in 2018 prior to Gerrard arriving.
The ex-Norwich City and Scotland centre-back himself has previously admitted that he “couldn’t wait” to get out of Ibrox such were the difficulties of the loan spell.

Since retiring from playing, Martin has had a bright start to his managerial career and after an impressive spell with MK Dons now finds himself at English Championship Swansea.
But whilst the Mirror might have earmarked the manager as a potential Gerrard replacement, naturally the notion has been widely condemned by supporters.
However, for anyone genuinely worried by reports that Rangers could plunge for the obviously unacceptable Swansea manager, fear not.
Rangers media partner Heart & Hand have claimed that there is “nothing in” the Russell Martin story and urged everyone to “stop panicking”.
Nothing in the Russell Martin story. Stop panicking everyone 😀

Respected Ibrox blogger Four Lads Had a Dream has also debunked the rumours claiming the interest is a “non-starter” adding the club “aren’t remotely interested”.
Russell Martin is a total non-starter. Club aren’t remotely interested in him (tbf according to reports down there he’s happy where he is)
Sounds like a journalist just linking an ex-player for the sake of it.
This is going to happen a lot, so hopefully we move quickly

This will come as a relief to Rangers fans who clearly do not find the former Gers defender a suitable replacement for iconic Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Rangers fans are getting used to the notion Gerrard is set to leave with fans branding images of Gerrard in London as “conclusive”.
