A Sportcal report has outlined the details of a multi-million-pound kit deal allegedly agreed between Rangers and up and coming sportswear brand, Castore.

The Gers released a ‘Commercial Update’ on Saturday afternoon in which the club’s Commercial Director James Bisgrove confirmed that a deal had been secured with a new kit supplier. He claimed the partnership represented ‘a significant step forward in Rangers’ recent history’ [Rangers.co.uk].

Speculation abounded on social media in the wake of the announcement, with many Bears asserting that Castore were the brand in question.

Those hunches have been backed up by this Sportcal report, which provides some specific details concerning the deal.

It’s stated a five-year contract worth £20 million has been signed. As a result, the Gers are set to receive equal payments of £4 million per annum.

It’s also claimed that Castore fended off competition from former Gers suppliers, Puma, and Italian brand, Macron, to secure the contract.

Castore is a Liverpool-based sportswear company, founded in 2015. Andy Murray is a shareholder in the business.

Verdict

This report appears to confirm the social media rumours that Rangers have opted against going with an established brand in favour of an up and coming name in the industry.

Castore describe themselves as a ‘premium’ sportswear brand for ‘athletes who demand the best’ [Castore.com] and the powers that be at Ibrox have clearly been impressed by their proposals.

After years of legal cases with Sports Direct as well as more recent problems with the current kit supplier, Hummel, this looks like the ‘clean slate’ promised by Bisgrove.

An official announcement is likely to come later in the week and Bears are doubtless already itching to see some concept designs.
