Rangers to sign Grezda today for £2m - Report

Rangers are set to sign Eros Grezda from Osijek today in a £2m deal, the Daily Record have reported.

Steven Gerrard has targeted the winger over the last week, with both clubs trying to agree a fee. However, it appears that Rangers will spend another £2m on an Osijek player once more.

This comes after the signing of Borna Barisic earlier on this summer from the Croatian side.

Medical complete

Grezda has completed a medical and had a tour of club facilities over the last 24 hours, with a fee and personal terms agreed. It means that the Albanian would become Rangers’ 13th summer signing. It’s the biggest overhaul Rangers have had in a window in recent memory.

Grezda didn’t appear in the Europa League clash against Rangers for Osijek. The right-sided winger was struggling with an injury, missing four domestic matches as well as the clash with Gers.

Meanwhile, speculation over the future of Joe Worrall continues to develop, as Rangers also close in on a loan deal for him.

Aitor Karanka wants to send his centre-back out to a club who can guarantee him first-team appearances. This led to Rangers boss Gerrard having to personally phone the Nottingham Forest manager and confirm Worrall would feature regularly.

However, that would be slightly surprising considering the good form of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson since joining in the summer.

Defensive tinkering?

The pair have managed to shore up Rangers’ defence to a substantial degree. With the exception of the 3-3 draw at Fir Park on Sunday, the centre-back pairing hadn’t conceded more than one goal in any of their previous 10 matches.

Tinkering with a successful back-line is a dangerous thing to do at any point in the season. However, Gerrard clearly likes Worrall, who captained England Under-21s to the Toulon Tournament last year.

The deal is close, and Rangers need to get it done before the close of the transfer window on Friday.
