Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall has been linked with Rangers for the last few days as Gerrard looks to bring in reinforcements at the back.
Gerrard was today quoted as saying that Worrall is a “fantastic player” and he has been on the radar for a while. Worrall, it seems, is the answer to beefing up Rangers thin cover at the back. Read more on the CB here.
The question is, with Goldson and Katic performing so well, will Joe Worrall get the game time his development needs?
Forest and Karanka ready to listen to offers
Forest boss Aitor Karanka has already spoken on his desire to get Worrall more game time. The Spaniard said:
“The club know that the player needs to play and if the player wants to leave and we can find a solution that is good for him, that is good.
“If he wants to stay, he is a player who has played Championship football and he is in our squad – he is another who has come through our Academy.
If a loan move is preferred, Rangers will need to prove Worrall will get regular football. At the moment, he’d be covering and providing competition. But Rangers need that.
Six clean sheets in 10 games for Katic and Goldson
Competition improves players. Katic and Goldson need to be pushed to be consistent this season. Rangers are also 90 minutes from Europe. With a cramped fixture list, Rangers need reinforcements to keep legs fresh.
If Gerrard is saying Worrall is a fantastic prospect, then it’s hard to disagree. Gerrard’s signings this season have all offered something different. There’s real optimism the England U-21 international can come in and do a job when need.
Do I think he’ll get the game time he needs at Rangers? In a long season, absolutely.
Will he get it right away?
There are two top players who he’ll have to depose first.
