Rangers star Rabbi Matondo has been snapped back in the gym as he looks to overcome injury and win over the Ibrox support.

The Welsh international winger, 22, was snapped working with a personal trainer as he looks to get back into the Rangers reckoning following a difficult first season at Ibrox.

Signed from Schalke 04 in a reported £2.5m deal this summer, Rangers fans can be forgiven for thinking the spritely former Man City youth attacker would be the man to plug that troublesome right-wing slot.

At the time the deal was considered something of a coup; Old Firm rivals Celtic were also linked, whilst the likes of Premier League Leeds United were also mentioned.

Prior to signing for Rangers, Rabbi Matondo had just impressed in a season-long loan deal in Belgium, where the attacker netted ten goals at Cercle Brugge and appeared to get his career back on track.

But since joining the club Matondo has struggled to settle and find his form at Rangers, with fans now lamenting the high fee and the potentially high wages.

Rangers jury out on Rabbi Matondo

Yet to find the net for Rangers, the failed transfer of Rabbi Matondo has had a huge impact on the club’s season with the player representing a substantial Ibrox outlay.

But there is still time to turn that around and as Rabbi Matondo works his way back from injury, Rangers fans will be looking for the player to prove himself ahead of the summer.

After all, Schalke did pay Man City £11m for his services back in 2019.

If Matondo can’t make an impact, perhaps it makes sense for Rangers to cash in and move on already with too many players injured and too many high-earners failing to properly impact the first-team squad.

Matondo has been out since late December, with the winger last seen in the 3-0 Premiership win over Motherwell at the turn of the year.

Meanwhile, Ryan Jack has been linked with a shock Ibrox exit.
