Rangers star could miss Celtic clash as international recall mooted

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could miss the crucial tie against Celtic on February 2, as well as an away match against Ross County four days earlier, that’s if he is surprisingly called up for Colombia’s vital World Cup qualifier’s.

With Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata unlikely to be called up for the matches due to an injury, then a shock recall may be on the cards for Morelos.

The matches against Peru on January 28 and Argentina on February 1 are key for the nation as they look to qualify for their third World Cup in a row.

Morelos hasn’t had much of a look in for the national side since manager Reinaldo Rueda has been in charge. He played only nine minutes in the Copa America during the summer as Colombia finished in third place.

More woe was to come as he wasn’t even called up to represent the national side in their most recent World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Paraguay.

Although the chances of a recall appear slim, the player’s recent form would no doubt give Colombia a chance of gaining vital points in their journey to reach Qatar in December.

Morelos was pictured looking lean as he was working hard during the winter break, fresh from winning the Scottish Premiership player of the month award for December.

The Colombian has been in excellent form under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, netting six goals and contributing two assists as the club has remained unbeaten so far under the Dutchman.

A fit Morelos is key for our title aspirations, and even though we are playing better than Celtic at the moment, having the striker available will boost our hopes even further.

In other news, Rangers could reap the financial rewards potentially on offer if DAZN completes their takeover of BT Sport later this month.
