Leading Rangers media partner Heart & Hand have debunked claims that Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard has a £2m release clause in his Ibrox contract amid links to Aston Villa.

Reputable outlet the Telegraph claimed that Gerrard was interested in the role and that Villa can secure his services by activating the clause in his contract.

However – and whilst Heart & Hand acknowledges the solidity of the report – the Rangers media partners’ official account claims that this is “not actually true”.

The podcast’s host David Edgar then explains that the newspaper is likely going off the Ibrox manager’s first contract, not the extension that he signed in 2019.

And that’s before claiming that the Telegraph story in essence means the situation is “not looking good”.

Rangers fans are nervously chewing their fingernails over the future of manager Steven Gerrard amid links to Aston Villa.

Heart & Hand have a close relationship with the Ibrox club and the media partners admit that Rangers are tight-lipped when it comes to situation involving Gerrard.

However, David Edgar has also been out debunking another major suggestion which he believes is false.

These concerns reports that there has been major contact from Aston Villa regarding the current manager of the Ibrox club.

The trusted source on all things Rangers claims that as things stood yesterday anyone claiming Villa had made contact over Gerrard is a “great big fibber”.

Media partners can’t allay fears around Steven Gerrard Rangers future

Rangers media partners Heart & Hand might be debunking some myths about the Gerrard story but even they can’t allay fears regarding the manager’s future.

The suggestion from the press appears to Villa have sounded out Gerrard’s camp and whilst there hasn’t been an official approach at the time of writing, would Villa really make one unless they got an intimation it’d be worth it?

When it comes to the release clause, given the money that Villa are being backed with, bringing together the financial package to sign the Gers manager is also unlikely to be an issue.

It’s all very up in the air at the moment but the mood has certainly changed at Ibrox as the sounds around the deal point towards a Rangers exit to Villa Park.

Given Gerrard’s standing in the support this would be a major low blow and despite the success of 55 and rebuilding the club, jumping ship mid-season is sure to tarnish the manager’s legacy.

Or at the very least, have Rangers fans at each other’s throats over it.

Rangers fans are “uneasy” about the entire thing as momentum swings from Ibrox towards Villa Park.
