Rangers loanee Lewis Mayo provided an assist as Partick Thistle grabbed a late equaliser against Kilmarnock in a 1-1 draw to keep their hopes of promotion from the Scottish Championship alive.
Kilmarnock took the lead through an Oli Shaw penalty as Richard Foster was accused of handling a cross.
As the match drifted into the final few minutes, Kilmarnock were looking set to go top of the Championship table.
Late drama ensued as Mayo provided Ryan Docherty with the assist as he fired home an excellent effort from 20 yards which the keeper couldn’t do anything about and gave Partick a share of the spoils.
The result leaves Killie in second place, whereas Partick sits just outside the playoff spots in what is a congested top five.
Lewis Mayo is impressing at Partick Thistle
The young defender has been a stand out performer since he joined the Championship side in the summer following their promotion.
The 21 year has featured regularly for the side and has scored once and provided one assist as Partick aim for back-to-back promotions in what would be an incredible achievement.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the centre back will be looking to suitably impress Giovanni van Bronckhorst in order to win a new deal.
This will be tough, as Rangers have just signed John Souttar on a pre contract agreement from Hearts and with interest in Dutchman Danilho Doekhi, the Ibrox side could have a totally different backline when next season begins.
The onus is on Mayo to prove to the manager that he is good enough to join up with the first team squad following his loan spell.
