Rangers-linked Darius Olaru plays the entire match as Romanian outfit FCSB score a late winner away to CFR Cluj to blow open the Liga I title race.

The 24-year-old Romanian playmaker is an influential player for the top tier club and the FCSB captain has been a stand-out performer over the last few seasons.

And the midfielder played the full 90 minutes as Malcolm Edjouma netted an 88th minute winner to go within four points of CFR Cluj at the top of the Romanian top tier table.

The result means that FCSB sit in 4th place in Liga I, with Rapid Bucharesti and Farul Constanta between the two clubs as a tight Romanian top flight enters its final six matches.

Darius Olaru linked to Rangers in January

Rangers fans may have one eye on what happens with Darius Olaru at FCSB for the remainder of the Romanian season with strong links between the Ibrox club and the midfielder.

Linked to Rangers in the summer, the Daily Record claimed the Ibrox club could look to resurrect interest in the Romanian as Michael Beale looked to strengthen the squad in January.

But these links were quickly shot down by Giovanni Becali who claimed that FCSB’s €5m (£4.4m) asking price was putting clubs off a January move with a summer move for the player potentially on the cards.

“We proposed it [a transfer exit this January],” said Becali [Digisport].

“You know what they say, never say never, but there is little chance of him leaving this winter, given that FCSB will soon be in contention.

“FCSB is asking a lot for Olaru. There are several teams who have followed him, who want him, but in the winter they hardly pay large sums of money.

“Probably in the summer it will be possible to transfer him, if everything goes well.”

Out of contract in the summer of 2024, FCSB may well be looking to cash in on the Romanian international and Rangers will have one eye on the progress of Darius Olaru in the week’s ahead.

Meanwhile, excitement is beginning to build around Todd Cantwell at Rangers.
