Rangers legend Jorg Albertz has bitten back at the Daily Record for releasing a column in his name that took pot shots at the Ibrox side amid an ongoing row with Club 1872.

There’s a tumultuousness behind the scenes at Ibrox between protests over the Aussie Old Firm and Rangers shareholders Club 1872 taking aim at the directors by way of statement.

In it, Club 1872 criticised the running of the club and the treatment of former players who worked for the club on an ambassadorial basis.

It’s all left a pretty sour taste and over the weekend a column popped up from the ex-German international taking aim at Rangers for “lacking respect” after the Legends game.

Touching on everything from the friendly to Club 1872 to the absence of ex-players like Mark Hateley, Richard Gough and Derek Johnstone, the column surprised supporters.

Not least because it certainly didn’t look like it had been written by Jorg Albertz.

The ex-Hamburg star confirmed this via his Instagram and took aim at the Daily Record for putting his name to a column he hadn’t proofread and appearing to use his profile to take a shot at the club.

The German has promised “immediate action” and slammed the paper for a “clear breach of trust”.

“The Daily Record/Sunday Mail today published my column which I or my team had NOT seen or approved,” said Jorg Albertz via Instagram.

“It isn’t an accurate reflection of the conversation I had with the journalist.

“This is extremely disappointing and is a clear breach of trust. I will be taking immediate action.

“I am very proud to be part of Rangers Football Club and enjoy all interactions I have with the club.

“The Rangers weekend of Legends was a fantastic occasion and celebration of Rangers 150th anniversary.”

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll know that Rangers and the Daily Record do not see eye to eye on a number of issues and that the newspaper is not welcome at Ibrox.

The paper was also forced into launching its own internal investigation after an apparent campaign over offensive tweets aimed at Rangers fan media Heart & Hand massively backfired.

For whatever reason, the intimation from Jorg Albertz here is that the newspaper has used his name to have a go at Rangers and it begs the question, what exactly was the intention here?

Meanwhile, Rangers have been praised by a £56m global superstar as he sends out a message to an audience of 29.3m.
