Rangers legend Jorg Albertz might’ve been gracing the hallowed Ibrox turf once again this weekend, but off the pitch the former Germany midfielder has been hammering home his concerns.
The Hammer remains one of Rangers’ greatest ever European imports and his legend makes him one of the most popular former players on the Legends circuit.

Involved with a whole host of ex-Rangers heroes in the 150th anniversary friendly with Luis Figo’s World XI, the midfielder was speaking in a Daily Record column.
Whilst there are plenty unconvinced that Jorg Albertz wrote this – and we’d like to make it clear we’re not suggesting he never – he’s had some stern words to say surrounding the club.
There’s a growing disconnect between the Rangers support and the Rangers board all wrapped up in this nonsense Aussie Old Firm where the Ibrox club have been made to look like mugs.
This was made even worse when Club 1872 – themselves a massive bone of contention in the support – took aim at the Board for their running of the club.
The club then forced out a statement which ultimately didn’t make them look great either.
Jorg Albertz admits the situation is alarming and has urged the Ibrox directorate to sit down with Club 1872 and sort everything out for the good of Rangers.
The German also claimed the fact several club legends weren’t present at the friendly is “concerning” and slammed a lack of “respect”.
Here’s a key excerpt but visit the Record link above to read the whole Jorg Albertz column:
“The daily dramas at my old club aren’t plastered across the newspapers in Germany, unlike in Scotland. But the old boys do have a WhatsApp group for former players.
“All of the issues at the club are soon relayed back and forth. We chat, we look and listen – and at times it can be disheartening.
“What should never be forgotten is that all of the Rangers Legends who lined up yesterday have given so much to the club.
“Some faces were surprisingly absent so there was sadness too.
“The club should take pride in these players and men such as Mark Hateley, Richard Gough and Derek Johnstone.
“That’s why their removal as club ambassadors is concerning.
“Having them around the club should be a given but is there a belief within the board that they are too aligned to former chairman Dave King? I don’t know.
“It’s all a bit too insecure and lacking in respect for men who deserve better.
“It’s all getting a bit ugly and unbecoming of such a great club.
“Someone from the board needs to take a lead and open a more constructive line of dialogue than just firing out statements.
“Airing grievances in full public view does nobody any good. There must be a better way.
“A channel of communication between the Rangers board and the fans is needed now more than ever.
“What’s so wrong about someone like managing director Stewart Robertson sitting down with representatives of Club 1872 and clearing the air?”
Meanwhile, Rangers have been praised by a £56m global superstar as he sends out a message to an audience of 29.3m.
