Rangers have revealed that several first-team stars will leave the club at the end of their contracts this summer – shifting around £4.5m per season off the wage bill.
The club took to social media to announce the imminent departures of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos come the end of the campaign.
While the club thanked the quintet for their efforts, Rangers fans are taking this as a sign of the changes to come this summer, with this group of players failing to impress this season.
It also means that the clash with Hearts at Ibrox this week will be the final time that Rangers fans see several of these first-teamers in action at Ibrox and it promises to be an emotional send-off.
Rangers to save big on outgoing players’ contracts
While things haven’t gone right this season, there have been some monumental contributions from these five players over their time in Glasgow, which have contributed to the club being rebuilt.
Most notably is the legendary 55th title win, during which all played key roles, while the run to the Europa League Final was a story of what might have been, and was probably one penalty kick away from immortality.
But as the dust settles on their exits, the Rangers transfer budget has just received a sizeable boost with the news that the club’s coffers will be reinforced with around £4.5m of space next season.

According to Salary Sport, Rangers will save around £83.5k per week as the contracts of Scott Arfield (£10k), Allan McGregor (£8.5k), Filip Helander (£14k), Ryan Kent (£18k) and Alfredo Morelos (£33k) prepare to expire.
That’s the bones of £4.5m per annum and attention will quickly turn to who Rangers are looking to sign as they hope to regain their brief moment of Premiership dominance.
There have been five names mentioned in particular, but it’s clear that Rangers now have financial room to play with as Michael Beale looks to rebuild a fractured squad and club.
